Golden Beef Bone Broth Recipe

This is my recipe that I use when I make my bone broth.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 pounds beef soup bones (preferably with marrow)
  • 4 organic carrots, chopped
  • 5-6 cloves organic garlic, peel on, smashed
  • 2 medium organic onions, peel on, sliced in half lengthwise and quartered
  • 1 tbs pink Himalayan salt
  • 1 tbs whole peppercorns
  • 2 medium finger-length organic turmeric roots, halved lengthwise
  • 4-6 sprigs organic fresh thyme
  • 3-5 sprigs organic fresh rosemary
  • ¼ cup organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 organic orange, quartered
  • 20 cups cold water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place all ingredients (aside from the fresh herbs) on a baking sheet and roast for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
  2. Transfer all ingredients and expelled juices from baking into a 10+ quart capacity slow cooker, insta-pot, or large stock pot on the stove.
  3. Add in water.
  4. Turn on the slow cooker or instapot and prepare to cook for at least 36 hours. That might mean 3 cycles on the standard slow cooker that has a maximum 12-hour setting (unless you can set your slow cooker for 36 hours) or 2 cycles on a 20-hour insta-pot.
  5. If cooking on a stovetop, bring the large pot to a boil over high heat; reduce and simmer gently.
  6. In slow cooker or pot, skim the fat that rises to the surface occasionally.
  7. Simmer for 36 to 48 hours.
  8. Remove from heat, add in the fresh herbs, and allow to cool.
  9. Discard solids and strain remainder in a bowl through a colander. Let stock cool to room temperature, cover or jar and chill.
  10. Refrigerate and use within a week. Or freeze for up to 3 months.
  11. Traditionally, an 8oz serving of bone broth contains 8-10g protein and 7-10g collagen.

Bone broth can be consumed directly or cooked with. It is easily incorporated in soups and sauces as the base, as a cooking liquid for potato’s, pastas, etc, and as the liquid in baked goods. Check out 101 Bone Broth Recipes here. Don’t have time to make bone broth? Dr. Josh Axe has a great Bone Broth Protein option that comes in tons of flavors, or unflavored. I add it to my cooking and baking.

PRO TIP: If you are drinking it, warm it slightly and add a scoop of multi-collagen, collagen peptides, and scoop of colostrum to bump up your nutrients. One 8 oz serving of bone broth with collagen and colostrum is 36 g protein, 40 g collagen, probiotics, 100% of your daily Vitamin C, plus colostrum for gut health, cell regeneration, and immune function.
